Cash for Cruising
Get your bike subsidized now! The funding amount and conditions vary between municipalities and (federal) states. We have therefore compiled a helpful overview for you*.
For some funding programs, the payload of the bike is decisive. It is calculated as follows:
Permissible total weight = maximum allowed sum of weights of bike + rider + attachments + luggage
LONG JOHN / FRONTLOADER
Rider in the back, load in the front
A classic transport bike which has a long tradition. Particularly suited for heavy loads, a Long John rider sits behind the loading area and always has his load in view.
|Payload||total load incl. driver usually starting at 200 kg|
|Range of application||passenger transport, shopping, bulky transport goods, heavy goods, transport for businesses|
|Advantages||large load capacity, low center of gravity, easy loading and unloading, usually with stable transport box, rain cover usually available, legally still a bicycle|
|Disadvantages||heavy wheels with large turning circle, needs a larger storage space|
BAKERY BIKE (Bäckerrad) / POSTBIKE
Regular bike with front & rear carrier
A bakery bike is not necessarily recognized as a cargo bike at first glance, but you quickly realize that the sturdy frame with the rear and front carrier offers two loading areas. Due to the division, a Bakery Bike is rather intended for small to medium goods.
|Weight||about 30 kg+|
|Payload||total load incl. driver usually approx. 140kg|
|Range of use||everyday errands, transport of smaller pieces of luggage, possibly children on the rear rack|
|Advantages||lower entry price, simple and robust technology, dimensions usually correspond to a regular bike|
|Disadvantages||high center of gravity, tilts easily, irritations with the front carrier when cornering|
