Me and My Bike #9 – Gael Canonne from Dirty Seven Garage, France

Ruff Cycles is about cruiser eBikes and bicycles, conveying a specific and free riding experience. We believe that we are more than an ordinary brand, our connection to the products is extraordinary.
With this series of emailings, we want to highlight our riders and their bikes, as well as the inspiration behind their designs to the whole community.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION REGARDING THE DESIGN AND THE COLORS?

I’ve been into bikes all my life, and crossed between most styles of riding, but mostly enjoying the creative outlet of custom bikes these days.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BIKE:

I love it and so do all the people that see it! It is a unique bike that really stands out.

HOW LONG TOOK THE PROCESS OF CREATING THIS BIKE?

This bike took a while to build as for a start it was the first cruiser bike I’ve ever built, plus it was a side project as my main activities are to build and customize motorcycles (dirty seven garage) and make longboards (skate) (seven suns longboards).

The bamboo parts took quite a while to think and make as well. and i had to weld some special brackets to fix them on the bike.

WHAT HURDLES DID YOU HAVE TO OVERCOME DURING CONSTRUCTION, OR WHERE THERE ANY?

Being the first cruiser i’ve built it was a lot of research to find all the right parts with all the right standards.

Finding the right spokes for the 5 speed sturmy archer rear hub and lacing the wheel was a bit tough.
And aligning the front chain wheel with the rear hub was a bit tricky.

And as i said, designing and making the bamboo parts was a bit tricky and time consuming as well!

And to finish, painting a candy color on a bike frame is always a bit difficult to obtain a really nice and even finish!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU RIDE YOUR BIKE?

I don’t ride it very often as it is for sale and on display in our show room.

I don’t want to scratch it or ware it out too much but on the other hand I’ve lent it to some students from Toulouse (The Rym X Kelit and Onirik Video studio) that wanted to make a rap video with it.

NOW A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

I am a vintage bike builder (Dirty Seven Garage) i’m the welder and painter of a team of 4 mechanics, and longboard skate shaper (Seven Suns Longboards) from Toulouse France. I like making many things… building bicycles, mopeds, lamps from motorcycle parts, electric guitars in motorcycle gas tanks, I also used to make electric guitars (Delirium guitars)…

Basically i love designing and building many things!
